The investment seeks a high level of current income as is consistent with prudent investing, while seeking preservation of capital. Under normal market conditions, the fund invests at least 80% of its net assets in securities issued or guaranteed by the U.S. government, its agencies, or instrumentalities. To pursue its investment goal, it may invest in certain interest rate-related derivative transactions, principally U.S. Treasury futures contracts.
