I work at home as a full-time consultant. In my free time, I care for my young family, work on my house, spend time in the garden, go for walks on the beach and write articles on my website.
I'm living below my means, focusing on becoming financially free and creating a sustainable future.
How did you learn about FI?
When I was young I started investing in the share market. From there the interest grew and I kept researching financial independence.
What was your financial status when you began?
I was already heading down the path of FI without realizing it. I had a few shares and an emergency backup of money. I also had a little student debt (but is was only indexed yearly).
At that time I had no wife, kids or a mortgage.
What has been the most impactful change you've made towards FI?
Creating my website. Having your own website (1) keeps you accountable for you saving and investing, (2) connects you to the broader FI community, and (3) can produce a little bit of side hustle income.
What, if anything, do you wish you could have done differently?
Invest in bitcoin (haha) but no, no one can predict things like that.
On a serious note, save more from an early age. If I was able to save more, I would already be quite far down the FI path right now!
It's all about the power of compounding!
What advice do you have for others going down the path of FI?
Join a community of like minded people, but do your own research. What works well for others may not work well for you!
Also, start small. You don't need to invest everything you have into something that you don't know.
Always make sure you have protections in place!
